Roles and Responsibilities

Philosophy:

The Yard Loader is the leader at the sales facility ensuring:

  • Appropriate leadership and direction are provided by Supervisor to Yard Loader in coordination with the Operations Manager.
  • Safe practices are followed by all individuals on the plant site and safe working conditions are maintained.
  • Product that is being sent out or dropped off is always being inspected to ensure quality product is leaving or coming into the yard at all times.
  • The yard is operationally reliable 100% of the time by practicing preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Operational efficiency is managed and continuously improved through the monitoring of specific Key Performance Indicators.
  • Material quantities are efficiently managed, and administrative procedures are followed consistently.
  • A professional facility is maintained through good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure customers are being loaded with the appropriate quantities of desired material.
  • Dust mitigation.

Safety: 

Personal Protective Equipment.  The Yard Loader always enforces the wearing of appropriate safety equipment by all individuals in the yard, including the Yard Loader themselves.

Monthly Yard Inspections.  The Yard Loader coordinates monthly yard inspections with the Production Manager.

Policies and Procedures.  The Yard Loader adheres to and enforces all applicable safety policies and procedures mandated by Federal law or by CTI Policy.  For example, all lock-out/tag-out procedures will be performed when working on plant and fleet equipment.

Fleet Inspections. The Yard Loader is responsible for the pre and post-inspection of yard all equipment. Ensuring equipment is staying up to date all on maintenance needs.

Quality:

Sampling: Assist with the quality control process. For example, collecting samples of material on site.   

Monitor Incoming/Outgoing Material Quality.  The Yard Loader always assesses the quality of materials delivered in conjunction with yard personnel, quality control department and material source personnel.

Raw Material Maintenance.  The Yard Loader will always maintain raw material piles; as well as monitoring product going into raw material piles. 

Monitor Yard Functionality. Making sure the yard is running smoothly, and efficiently; Any inefficiencies should be reported through the proper channels.

Yard Maintenance:

Pre-Shift Inspection.  Every morning before start-up, the Yard Loader performs a visual inspection to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and operational.

Yard Reliability.  The Yard Loader ensures yard preventive maintenance functions are performed as directed by the Production Manager.  Periodic inspections are performed to inspect equipment at the yard.

Operating Efficiency:

Dust Control: Minimize dust per municipal and state requirements.

Key Performance Indicators.  The Yard Loader is responsible for ensuring the following metrics are within tolerance and along with the Production Manager analyzes any negative trends in:

  • Raw Material Quantity
  • Load Time
  • Load Accuracy

Monitor Plant Speed.  The Yard Loader ensures that the yard always performs at targeted capacity.

Materials Management:

Continual Awareness Raw Material Inventory.  Yard Loader needs to be maintaining all raw material piles to the standard set by Production Manager.   

Management: Ability to manage what is coming into and being sent out of the yard. Accepting and rejecting the correct material.

Administration:

Paperwork Submitted Accurately and Timely.  All paperwork must be eligible and written in the English language. 

Appearance:

Plant.  Housekeeping is prioritized, with the yard being free from weeds, debris accumulation, and obsolete equipment.  Fuel and oil are always stored in an environmentally acceptable manner and closed. Signs are clean and visible around the yard.

Work Experience:

Previous Experience: 1-3+ years of operating experience required

Certifications:

Education: High school diploma

Physical Requirements:

Weather Conditions: Must be able to withstand all weather conditions-Conditions vary based of the different seasons in the work area; Hot, cold, and wet conditions are typical.

Lifting: Must be able to lift power tools, and other equipment 30+ pounds multiple times daily. Must be able to bend, twist, sit and maneuver body in awkward positions multiple times daily. Other lifting skills may be required.

Walking/Sitting: Must be able to handle walking on variable ground conditions. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time without discomfort.

Allergies: Must not be allergic to oils, solvents, gas fumes, and concrete raw materials.

Pre-Employment:

Drug Screening: All applicants must test negative to a pre-employment drug screen.

Driving: Must possess a valid driver’s license and cannot be a high-risk rating. CDL preferred.

General Description of Duties: Skill to do perform a variety of concrete finishing including floor finishing with machines, curb building, shoveling concrete, forming and grading.

Detailed Description of Duties:

Finisher 1

  • Masters all finishing duties including: Setting forms, grading, puddling concrete material, building monolithic curbs, finishing floors with riding trowels, sawing floors/paving, mopping, straight edging and operate common power equipment.
  • Must be ACI Certified.

Finisher 2

  • Generally, the same as a Finisher 1 but less versatile or single task capability.

Finisher 3

  • New hire, little or no experience

Other Qualifications:

  • Some hand tool required-This will be discussed on first day of work.

Daily Vehicle Inspections

The Delivery Professional thoroughly performs required daily vehicle inspections to prevent mechanical problems that could result in a safety incident.  The Delivery Professional provides a written report to the Plant Operator for approval daily.  Any safety related mechanical conditions should be directed to the Plant Operator immediately. 

Defensive Driving

The Delivery Professional drives defensively, using principles consistent with the company’s safety policy.  Drivers observe basic principles of road courtesy and never violate state or federal hours of service regulations. 

Alertness on the Jobsite

The Delivery Professional is alert on the jobsite and in the plant, always following job site/plant instructions and is continuously watchful of potential hazards.  He communicates any unsafe situations immediately to dispatch.

Quality

Product Quality

The Delivery Professional is responsible for slump, quantity, material size, color, and extra products in loads of concrete. He communicates jobsite issues to management in a timely manner via ticket or mobile telephone, whichever is appropriate to the situation. When relevant, the Delivery Professional should communicate jobsite issues that may impact company interests. For example, if the Delivery Professional notices a test improperly performed by an inspector, the Plant Operator should be discreetly notified.  All water added on the jobsite should be recorded on the delivery ticket, including noting ‘zero gallons’ if none is added. The Delivery Professional must always have the delivery ticket and damage waiver signed by the person receiving concrete on the jobsite.

Operating Efficiency

Submission of Accurate Time Information

The Delivery Professional accurately records time information using the Trak-It truck tracking device.  They must always use Trak-It in a timely manner to ensure an accurate record of status times is created for both current and future reference.

Adherence to Time Standards

The Delivery Professional adheres to the allotted time standards, taking an average of fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the evening for start-up and shutdown time, respectively.  Each day, the Delivery Professional strives for efficiency while simultaneously making safety and quality priorities.  The Delivery Professional is an integral part of the company team and should submit improvement ideas and suggestions to management.

Directions

The Delivery Professional follows the ticketed route pre-planned by Dispatch, selecting the most direct and safe course.  Traffic conditions and special circumstances are communicated to dispatch and/or the Plant Operator in a timely manner to aid in both decision making and the routing of future loads.

Trucks

The Delivery Professional’s truck should be constantly kept in clean condition.  The cab is kept clean and neat and the exterior of the cab and the mixer are free from built-up concrete, road debris, and oil. 

Requirements

Must posses a Class A or Class B with Air Brakes CDL and pass a DOT driver background check. You must be able to maintain your CDL while employed.
